Video 18 Cherry Picker Keyword Diffiuclty Tool v Keyword SEO Pro

A review of "Cherry Picker" and a comparison with Keyword SEO Pro.

Ryan Diess has just released a new program (July 2010) called 'Cherry Picker' and in this video I would like to review the new program and see whether it really is the cherry picker he claims.  Let us leave it to Ryan Deiss to explain some of the benefits he claims for his new program.

This is Ryaan Deiss and I'll spend just a couple of minutes explaining how my market research software works. Let us say for examply, you want to see how competitive, how difficult is it going to be for me to rank for the keyword 'insurance quotes.

Good Ryan. I am totally with you so far. A major component in search engine optimisation is keyword research. We find appropriate keywords using keyword suggestion tools and then we need a good quality keyword difficulty tool. After that we can consider on-page optimisation on and then off-page optimisation video 8 of this series explains keyword research.

'Insurance quotes' is one of the most difficult out there. But I want to show you its so difficult and why this keyword would not be considered to be a cherry market. You want to look for in a cherry market. You want to make sure that the numbers in the collumns are low - inbound links to the URL, the number of links to the domain, the number of pages. You want these numbers to be as small as possible.  Can you rank in the top 10 for the keyword 'insurance quote'? May be. Probably not.

There is now good evidence that PageRank is the major factor, the top factor in the Google algorithm. As Leslie Roedha an SEO expert says, for competitive searches PageRank is your ticket to the game.

Recently SEOMoz has brought together the leading SEO experts and the majority of them agree that the most important factor on Google is the trust or the authority of the domain. That is to say that PageRank of the HomePage and not the PageRank  of the URL. Back to Ryan but remember you are showing the PageRank of the URL and not the HomePage.

I'll show you another way that you can submarket even ultra competive markets like this one. The way that you do it is by going local. There has been a lot of talk about local marketing. The reason that local works is that it is so much easier. Let us go to Austin Texas for Austin mortgage loan. Look at the number of inbound links - 359. That is a month or two of work to be ranked in one of the most difficult markets on the Internet. What is required to do that - not much. Nothing. Nothing.

Well it all sounds very easy. You just need 359 links and you'll beat the web page in position five.

But how come the web page in position five with 359 links is behind that in position one which has just four inbound links to the URL. The answer lies in the PageRank.

You see that Cherry Picker is showing us that the PageRank of this URL is 3 and that is correct and PageRank 3 is not desparately difficult to achieve but it is not that easy either.

Keyword SEO Pro looks not only at the PageRank of the internal page, the URL, but also the PageRank of the corresponding HomePages. and its the PageRank of the HomePages that matters. So Keyword SEO Pro agrees that the page in position one has a PageRank of 3 but the corresponding HomePage PageRank is 6 and that is extremely difficult to achieve.

The problem is that not all backlinks are equal. One of the major factors in backlink value or link juice is the PageRank of the linking page. Ryan Deiss is well aware of this. Here he shows that a link from a Google PageRank 5 is equal to getting 555 links from a Google PageRank 1 and this is in his own PDF.

Look at this. This is a cherry cherry market. Number of inbound links - 305 an 543 links to the website. We can get this done and grab the number 4 position in a month or two. This is pretty easy. This is a cherry, cherry market.

I am sorry Ryan but the webpage in positon four has a PageRank of 5 and that is difficult to achieve.

This is a comparison between Keyword SEO Pro and Cherry Picker. Keyword SEO Pro looks at the HomePage PageRank, which is the number one factor on Google. Cherry Picker looks at the number of links to the URL and the number of links to the domain but ignores link value which varies considerably from backlink to backlink. It also looks at the URL PageRank but its the HomePage PageRank that matters. Keyword SEO Pro will analyse up to 50 keywords at a time but Cherry Picker looks at one keyword only. Keyword SEO Pro provides a choice of Google domains such as Google.com Google.co.uk Google.ca and Google Switzerland. Cherry Picker provides no choice.

HomePage PageRank is the key into Google but Cherry Picker, at least in its current format, as far as I can see, would just get you into some sticky cherry jam.
